The date for the swearing-in of re-elected President Paul Biya has now been confirmed. According to a statement from the Secretary-General of the Central Committee of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), the ceremony will take place on November 6 in Yaoundé. This choice is no coincidence: the date marks the 43rd anniversary of Paul Biya’s accession to power on November 6, 1982.
As every year, the ruling party commemorates this anniversary. In 2025, the CPDM will therefore celebrate both the president’s re-election for an eighth term and his 43 years at the head of the state. “November 6 will be a day of double significance for our party and for the nation,” the statement, signed on November 3 by Jean Nkuete, Secretary-General of the Central Committee, reads.
Already in 2018, following his previous re-election, Paul Biya was sworn in on November 6, reinforcing the symbolic importance of this date in the country’s political timeline.
In accordance with the Constitution, it is the Parliament convened in Congress that administers the presidential oath, thus marking the end of the electoral process and the beginning of the new presidential term.
