Determined to strengthen its cooperation with States to support the continental integration process, the ECA is undertaking a three-month exercise with the Government of Cameroon and other stakeholders, with a view to formulating a national strategy aimed at leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Cameroon’s strategy for the AfCFTA must align with the country’s overall development plans and contribute to the creation of credible regional value chains, while supporting intra-African trade in intermediate and manufactured products.
In terms of regional integration and intra-regional trade, Cameroon plays a leading role in Africa in general, and in Central Africa in particular, and must fully assume this role within the framework of the African trade program.
The AfCFTA Agreement commits African countries to eliminate tariffs on 90% of the goods they produce. Within this framework, intra-African trade is expected to increase by 52.3% by 2020, attracting significant investment flows and opportunities for Cameroon, notably for products such as coffee, tea, bananas, pepper, refined oils, soap, brewery products, cement, as well as other manufactured and semi-finished goods.
