Central African Republic: Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Central African–Cameroonian Railway
The laying of the first stone for the Trans African Rail headquarters took place on October 30 at PK 30 on the Boali road, marking the imminent start of construction for a railway connecting the Central African Republic (CAR) to Kribi, Cameroon.
In the presence of the Head of State, Faustin Archange Touadéra, the Minister of Transport, Herbert Gontran Djono Ahaba, told the national radio that this project would help improve mobility and promote the socio-economic integration of the sub-region.
Held under the high patronage of the Head of State, the ceremony was attended by the President of the National Assembly, Simplice Mathieu Sarandji, the Prime Minister, Félix Moloua, the Presidents of the Republic’s institutions, the Governor of Bangui, several government members, the Honorable Deputy and the Mayor of Bégoua, as well as numerous civilian and military dignitaries.
Local residents, members of the MCU party, and several associations supporting the Head of State mobilized in large numbers to participate in this historic event.
The British delegation, led by Sir John Peace, Chairman of the Board of Trans African Railways System LTD, was also present, highlighting that the ceremony represents a major milestone for the public-private partnership between the CAR and the British company.
